Vision Quilt

The GGS Vision Quilt project provides a creative outlet for people of all ages to express and share their feelings about gun violence.

The local project was inspired by Vision Quilt, a nonprofit founded in 2016 in Ashland, Oregon, by Cathy DeForest, a former educator. Cathy’s vision was to replicate the world-wide reaction to the AIDS Memorial Quilt of the 1980’s and to increase accessibility by making the current rendition digital. The digital quilt features high-quality photos of panels created by people from around the country.

The concept is simple: you create an 18” x 24” panel on fabric provided by GGS with your message about the issue of gun violence, then email a photo of the panel to Vision Quilt, which then adds the panel to its national digital quilt.

Cathy has created an inspiring video just for GGS; see below.

You can keep your panel to use any way you’d like: frame it, wear or carry it at public demonstrations and/or hopefully loan it to GGS for inclusion in potential public displays.

The national quilt can be viewed at visionquilt.org with those from Kansas City displayed at https://www.visionquilt.org/grandparents-for-gun-safety-kansas-city.html. For more information or to request material for a panel, contact us at [email protected]
